Pharmacology
 

The Port-a-Patch is well suited for pharmacological experiments on ion channels. Two ways of adding the compounds are possible.

  1. Simply adding the compound with a pipette to the cell. This process is fast and keeps the liquid consumption as small as 10 µl.
  2. Nanion also offers a software controlled perfusion system with an 8 channel manifold.

The figure shows a recording of the endogenous potassium channel (hKv1.3) in Jurkat cells. Five different concentrations of Quinidine were applied to the same cell. The corresponding Hill fit is displayed on the right with a resulting IC50 = 7.8 ± 3.8 µM (n = 3).
