Event Description

Automated patch clamp devices offer viable alternatives for recording neuronal ion channel targets expressed in cell lines, primary cells and stem cell-derived cells at a higher throughput with comparable data quality to manual patch clamp. Also, solid-supported membrane-based electrophysiology is an emerging technique for recording neuronal electrogenic transporters and membrane pumps. We will give an introduction to these techniques with specific examples including THIK-1, TRPML-1 and TMEM175.

About our presenters:

Dr. Alison Obergrussberger

Ali is a Senior Scientist and Scientific Communications Manager at Nanion Technologies. Ali will give an introduction into automated patch clamp and will present some data of neuronal ion channel targets including NaV1.9, P2X and TRP channels.

Rocco Zerlotti 

Rocco Zerlotti is a PhD student at Nanion Technologies. Rocco will give an introduction into the solid supported membrane (SSM)-based electrophysiology technique, for recordings of low amplitude membrane currents, using the SURFE2R instruments. Rocco will present data of the neuronal transporter GAT-1 and the lysosomal TMEM175 channel which has been linked to Parkinson's Disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.

David Dalrymple (Director, Business Development at SB Drug Discovery)

David Dalrymple is Director of Business Development at SB Drug Discovery. David will give some insights into how the SyncroPatch 384 automated patch clamp system has been integrated into their ion channel drug discovery research, providing examples including THIK-1 and TRPML-1 channels.
