“Tell us your story- how did your path lead you to Nanion Technologies?”

It all started at the “Universidad Central de Venezuela”. There, I obtained my bachelor´s degree in Biology, and was inspired by many excellent professors. One semester during a lecture about Animal Physiology, I discovered my passion about ion channels, proteins, and their mechanisms. So, I went to one dear professor who became my mentor and helped me deepen my love for ion channels and electrophysiology. During my bachelor´s thesis, I was trained in Patch Clamp and studied the activity of a potassium channel on red blood cells. That experience led me to a job in a well-respected research institute in Venezuela (IVIC) to develop further on the Patch Clamp technique using other cell types. On my quest to find a good Ph.D. position, I got an offer from a professor in Göttingen who needed someone with voltage clamp experience for an interesting project. That´s how I came to Germany, and landed in the “University of Göttingen”, the city of Nobel prizes.

During my doctoral studies, I worked with two devices from Nanion to perform research on membrane biophysics in one of my projects. I started following Nanion activities on social media and on the conferences I attended, and soon realized that they produced devices to make good science, but they were also producing good science themselves.

I decided to pursue a career outside academia that would be a great fit to my experience and interests. One day, I found out that Nanion was looking for someone with knowledge in electrophysiology to join their Marketing team, and as I have always liked a challenge and working on the limit of different disciplines, I applied. My previous experiences led me to Nanion, where I am currently working as a Marketing Associate, and it is fascinating to work surrounded with so many brilliant people and in many diverse projects.

“Knowing what you know now, what 3 pieces of advice would you give your 21-year-old self?”

1. Celebrate your failures. Those are the ones that bring you closer to the “success” you are looking for.
2. Find time to always take a small break to reflect on how things are going. Doing a check-in with one self is important.
3. Learn German, it would make your life easier later.

“One Last Question- what’s the coolest thing about your job?”

The people and diversity of the job. Nanion is full of smart, very diverse, friendly, and supportive people. It is nice to interact with them on very different contexts. It has been a good decision to further develop personal and professionally.
