Employee interview – Meet Marta Lemme
“Tell us your story- how did your path lead you to Nanion Technologies?”
I discovered Nanion Technologies thanks to one of my PhD colleagues who joined this company after his PhD and shared his great experience of working for this company with me.
After finishing studying biomedical engineering in Milan, I started a PhD in Hamburg where I had the opportunity to work in a great lab and gain a lot of experience in cardiac tissue engineering. Once I concluded my PhD I had an interview for a pharmaceutical company where I was supposed to perform cardiac drug screening on a machine called CardioExcyte 96. At that time I did not know this device, but I googled it and learned that it was produced by Nanion Technologies, so I decided to send a spontaneous application to join the company. Today I am the Application Scientist responsible for this machine!
“Knowing what you know now, what 3 pieces of advice would you give your 21-year-old self?”
1. I would tell myself to spend a few years abroad. During my Masters I spent six months in the Netherlands (Erasmus program) and six months in Basel (Master thesis), but I would have liked to spend one or two years in the USA. If you wait too long, life takes over and you miss your chance.
2. I would suggest to start having internship/practical experiences as early as possible during my university studies. Only by doing so do you understand what you really like and which role in a company is the best fit for you. By doing so you can gain valuable experience and drive your own career growth.
3. Finally, my last piece of advice to myself would be to enjoy and have fun during university. Sometimes fun memories with friends can be more valuable than having perfect grades!
“One Last Question- what’s the coolest thing about your job?”
The coolest thing about working at Nanion Technologies is the possibility to work in an environment that allows you to have an innovative idea and at the same time realize it! I find it amazing having engineers with a different know-how, a professional software team and a complete production chain in the same building, who can help you develop something new in a relatively short time frame!
