About the Meeting
Since its inception in 1990, the Ion Channels & Channelopathy Meeting has brought together specialists from a variety of disciplines, each requiring diverse experimental techniques such as molecular biology, biochemistry, electrophysiology, microscopy, cell culture, behavioral testing, selective pharmacology, and high-throughput sequencing. The research presented has broad applications, including developing therapeutic strategies for various human diseases, creating anthelmintic treatments, and designing selective drugs for pest control.
A key aim of the meeting is to facilitate networking between emerging French researchers—including graduate students—and leading international experts. This focus on fostering professional connections helps young researchers build the networks necessary for advancing their scientific careers. The meeting is also an excellent opportunity for graduate students to explore postdoctoral positions in both academia and industry. To support this goal, the organizing committee ensures strong international participation in each symposium.
The event is held in a relaxed, holiday-like setting, encouraging informal discussions and scientific exchanges throughout the conference. All participants stay on-site, creating an atmosphere similar to that of a Gordon Research Conference. This unique environment has led to numerous national and international collaborations over the years.
Over the past 25+ years, the meeting has hosted around 180 symposia, featuring nearly 700 speakers from around the world, with approximately half from non-French laboratories. The event has also showcased more than 1,600 posters presented by roughly 3,000 participants, 30% of whom are graduate students. Thanks to the support of financial partners, public organizations, biotech companies, and scientific societies, the conference keeps attendance fees low, making it accessible for young researchers.
