Successful start for the Membrane Physiology Symposium Japan

On July 17–18, 2025, the Membrane Physiology Symposium (MPS) took place in Japan for the first time. Held at the University of Tokyo’s RCAST building, the event welcomed a full room of participants from universities, research institutes, and pharmaceutical companies, all gathered to explore new developments in membrane physiology and biophysics.

The two-day event featured a diverse scientific program, from organelle electrophysiology and channel mutagenesis, to novel approaches for maturing iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes. Presentations were delivered by experts from across Japan and abroad, creating a focused and dynamic atmosphere that encouraged dialogue far beyond the lecture hall.

A space for exchange and collaboration

Participants also had the opportunity to take part in live workshops featuring Nanion’s electrophysiology and cell analytics platforms, including the Port-a-Patch, Patchliner, SyncroPatch 384, SURFE²R N1, Orbit mini, and Vesicle Prep Pro. These sessions allowed attendees to experience the technologies first-hand, ask questions, and explore how the tools could integrate into their own work.

This edition of MPS Japan also marked a special milestone for our local team: Nanion Technologies Japan recently relocated to the University of Tokyo, placing our lab in the heart of a vibrant research environment. We were delighted to welcome workshop participants to our new premises, and look forward to the collaborations that will grow from this experience.

MPS Japan was a successful event, full of great science and networking opportunities. As the Membrane Physiology Symposium series continue to grow, we are excited for what is next.
